Essential oils easily dissolve and absorb into the skin. This fact is apparrent after chopping fresh garlic. Not only can the odor be difficult to wash off hands, but garlic's aroma on the breath is noticable even before eating it.

Dry Skin
The skin produces a protective emollient called sebum. This substance acts as a softening, soothing, moisturizing, cream to the skin.  Individuals with low amounts of sebum in their skin may have dry, flaky, and itchy skin. Essential oils with longer-lasting base note aromas such as patchouli oil and sandalwood essential oil, as well as strong floral scents such as rose essential oil and ylang ylang are ideal in dry skin care products.

Moisturizing Cream

* 4 fl. oz. sweet almond oil
* 3 fl. oz. rosewater
* 1/2 oz. beeswax
* 10 drops
rose essential oil
* 5 drops
lavender oil
* 4 drops bergamot essential oil
* 8 drops patchouli oil
* 8 drops sandalwood essential oil

Melt the wax with the almond oil in a double boiler on as low a temperature as possile to allow melting. Lower the heat adding the rosewater slowly in a thin stream while beating vigorously. Remove from the heat when the water is incorporated. Once the mixture cools and turns creamy, add the essential oils and blend. Apply liberally to clean skin after a bath or any time.

Oily Skin
Individuals with oily skin may have overactive sebaceous glands. Regular cleansing with essential oils allows the oils' astringency to help remove excess oil and prevent clogged pores. Corn meal lightly srubs and tones, gently removing dead skin. Almond meal nourishes and helps restore deficient, beneficial oils. At the same time, almond meal helps balance the astringent effects of the essential oils.

Oily Skin Facial Mask
Mix 3 tablespoons of preferably freshly ground raw almond meal and white cornmeal. Add these essential oils to this base:

* 10 drops lavender essential oil
* 5 drops
bergamot oil
* 3 drops of
clary sage

Add enough rosewater or orange flower water to make a paste. After a bath or following washing face, use circular motions to gently massage the mask into the face, avoiding under the eyes. Leave the mixture on for 5 to 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. To close pores, splash face with cold water.
