Appliances (Kitchen Small Appliances)
Q:  What is the best juicer?

A:  There is really not a single best juicer. The important thing is to know what is most important to you. Figure out what produce you will be juicing. Then decide on the level of importance factors like maximum nutrition level of the juice, ease of cleaning, speed of juicing, noise levels, length of warranty, and price are to you. For more information, see Choosing a Juicer.

Q:  What is the best way to clean juicers?

A:  A dish brush works well on plastic parts, a bottle brush works well in tight areas, and a stiff wire bristle brush works well on stainless steel mess screens. If the manufacturer instructions indicate juicer parts are top rack dishwasher safe, it likely is. Otherwise, hand washing is recommended.

Q:  What appliance should be used to grind sprouted grains?

A:  Sprouted or wet grains may be ground using the blank plate included with the Champion Juicer. For a finer consistency, the grains may be put back through again. Or dehydrate and use a grain mill that best suits your needs.

Q:  What is the best blender?

A:  All of the blenders available from Hope for Health,LLC are excellent, high quality appliances, with each blender having its own benefits. The Blendtec Blender is the most powerful with 3 horsepower and has the longest warranty. It is shorter than the VitaMix and will fit under a cabinet more easily. All of the Waring blenders are often used commercially in bars.

Raw and Living Foods

Q:  What is a raw foods diet?
A:  A raw foods diet involves eating 75 to 100 % raw, enzyme-rich vegetarian foods and
vegan foods. Heating foods above 106° to 115° F destroys enzymes and reduces the
     food’s healing potential.

Q:  What are living and raw foods?

A:  Living foods are foods that are still growing and contain a larger enzyme content than mere raw foods. They include super nutritious foods such as greens, and sprouted nuts, seeds and grains. Raw foods also include any uncooked fresh fruit, vegetable, nuts and grains that may or may not be sprouted. Soaking some nuts and seeds for as little as a couple of hours activate the enzymes, but 24 hours to several days may increase enzymes to their maximum level.

Q:  What are enzymes?

A:  Enzymes are proteins made by cells that act as catalysts, beginning and speeding up reactions without being used up to aid digestion and healing within the body. The enzymes found in raw foods dramatically increase the healing power of foods.

Q:  What are the reasons to eat a raw or living food diet?

A:  People eat living and raw foods diets for a wide variety of reasons. Benefits include to detoxify, increase energy levels, feel better, improve appearance and mentality, stimulate the immune system, and help get rid of diseases. Other benefits include saving time and energy since cooking is unnecessary, environmental benefits if organic foods are consumed, and saving the lives of animals that otherwise would be destroyed.

Q:  What do living and raw foodists eat and drink?

A:  Living and raw foodist eat foods in their natural state including fruits, vegetables, herbs and sprouted beans, nuts and nut butters, seeds and grains. They drink pure water, fresh young coconut milk, freshly juiced fruit and vegetable juices, and sun tea brewed at low temperatures in the sun. Teas may also heated or cooled to 105 to 115° F using food thermometers to check the temperature.

Q:  Can an adequate amount of protein be consumed on a living and raw foods diet?

A:  Yes. Proteins are made up of amino acids, found in varying amounts of vegetarian food and vegan food. The greatest amounts of protein in raw foods are found in beans, grains, seeds, nuts, and nut butters, but other sources exist as well. To get a balance of amino acids, a wide variety of different types of amino acids should be consumed from numerous sources. Amino acids from beans and grains can be consumed to form complete proteins in the body in a single meal or at different times during the day, not necessarily at the same meal as once thought. 25 to 35 grams of protein are needed per day in the diet, but research shows raw plant protein is more available than cooked protein so fewer grams of raw food protein may go farther.
