Lemon Eucalyptus can be substituted for citronella oil in aromatherapy recipes. Dilute oil of lemon eucalyptus with one of the carrier oils such as jojoba oil, almond oil, or apricot kernel oil or blend sweet almond oil and/or other carrier oils together with oil of lemon eucalyptus. Make your own outdoor lotion using lavender oil, geranium oil, beeswax beads, and soy lecithin or make a patio spray using cedar oil.
Aura Cacia's oil of lemon eucalyptus is an indispensable commodity to outdoor enjoyment. The 1/2 oz. bottle is easily carried and holds approximately 300 drops of oil. Add 1-3 drops of lemon eucalyptus oil per teaspoon of water or carrier oils, such as jojoba oil or almond oil and apply it to the skin. For large quantities, store in the refrigerator.
Lemon Eucalyptus can also be combined with other natural ingredients for variety. Try substituting lemon eucalyptus for citronella oil in a candle, lamp oil, lotion, and spray recipes. Check out the all-natural lotion, body mist, and patio spray recipes using lemon eucalyptus below and be sure to keep lemon eucalyptus on hand to enhance enjoyment of all outdoor activities.
Outdoor Lotion
1 cup sweet almond oil or apricot kernel oil
3/4 ounce (or about 22 grams) beeswax beads
1 cup lukewarm water-based liquids such as tea, hydrosol (the water condensation produced during aromatherapy plant distillation), rainwater, or aloe juice
28 drops oil of lemon eucalyptus
6 drops lavender oil
4 drops grapefruit
2 drops geranium oil
Add beeswax to oil in a Pyrex cup or bowl. Place in a hot water bath. Heat until melted. Place the water in a blender. Allow the oil/wax mixture to cool. When the temperatures of the oil and water are comparable, turn on the blender and add the oil in a thin stream. Blend until a cream develops. Blend in the essential oils and store in a jar in the refrigerator.
A pinch of a natural emulsifier, such as soy lecithin, dissolved in the water prior to blending will help emulsify the mixture and prevent separation.
Summer Body Mist
4 ounces water-based liquid such as tea, hydrosol (the condensated water produced during aromatherapy plant distillation),rainwater, or aloe juice
1 teaspoon plain vinegar or herb-infused vinegar (lavender, rose, peppermint, etc.)
28 drops oil of lemon eucalyptus
6 drops lavender oil
4 drops grapefruit
2 drops geranium oil
Place vinegar in a spray-mister bottle. Add the essential oils and shake. Add water, cap and mist clothes and skin. Always shake well before use. Avoid eyes and sensitive areas.
Patio Spray
4 ounces Distilled Water
1 teaspoon aloe juice
20 drops oil of lemon eucalyptus
10 drops citronella oil
5 drops grapefruit
5 drops Red Cedarwood or Texas cedar oil
Place aloe juice in a spray-mister bottle. Add the essential oils and shake. Add water, cap and mist the atmosphere around your outdoor activities. Always shake well before use. Avoid spraying the skin, clothing, or garden plants.
Safety Notes: Essential oils are very concentrated and should be handled with care, following all label warnings and cautions. Keep oils out of eyes, ears, and mucous membranes. Don't put undiluted oils on skin—those with sensitive skin should test diluted oils by applying small amount to inner arm. Stop using oil immediately if redness, burning, itching, or irritation occurs. Keep oils tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
Aura Cacia's essential oils are all 100% pure and natural. They are carefully screened with a battery of tests, including gas chromatography, to ensure the highest quality available.
