Spices & Seasonings (Garlic N Herb - I) includes many healing herbs. All spices and seasonings contribute flavor and some degree of healing potential to a dish, but there probably is no comparison to the health benefits of ginger root and garlic in recipes compared to any other herb or seasoning. There have been entire books written on ginger root, one of a number of rhizomes, discussing the benefits of ginger root. The same is true of garlic. So use ground ginger root when possible to experience not just the taste, but also ginger health benefits. Use garlic salt when garlic seasoning is appropriate for the same reason. In some recipes, it is makes a good salt substitute. Other herbs that deliver flavor and health value include blends like Herbes de Provence, file gumbo, Greek seasoning, and Italian seasoning with Italian herbs like marjoram and basil. Use herbs as salt substitutes, for a Greek seasoning recipe, and file gumbo for thickening and seasoning. You may ask, “What is gumbo file?” It is a blend of Sassafras leaf and thyme leaf. Try using horseradish root in salads and sauces. Remember ginger root for ginger bread, cookies, and stir fries.
