Juicing citrus fruits is a good thing. According to research, potassium-rich oranges can help lower the risk of stroke and reduce blood pressure. The pith or white membrane under the skin is rich in vitamin C, cholesterol-fighting pectin, and bioflavonoids. Citrus fruits also contain calcium, niacin, and thiamine.
Get healthy using citrus juicers especially since juicing citrus could even help reduce blood pressure. Citrus juicers juice citrus fruits rich in bioflavonoids in a variety of ways. A citrus juicer can be in the form of a tapered reamer, centrifugal juicers, and manual citrus press juicers like the OrangeX household citrus press models. It is usually best to have several types of citrus juicers for different occasions and juicing jobs. Reamers are small tools convenient for juicing a small amount of juice, especially from lemons and limes. Larger amounts juice faster and more effortlessly with electric juicing machines. A manual citrus press is able to press citrus more efficiently than centrifugal juicers like the Waring Pro or centrifugal juicers with attachments available separately like the Omega juicer and Acme juicer. Of course the Acme and Omega juicer also have the advantage of juicing other fruits and vegetables as well. An advantage to manual citrus press juicers is a sweeter, more delicious juice since these press citrus leaving virtually all the oils and constituents from the pith that are less tasty with the discards. A citrus press also displays attractively on any counter top. Masticating juicers are thought of as dense fruit and vegetable juicers, but can juice a more whole citrus juice. Single gear juicers and twin gear triturating juicers are best for vegetables, but can juice the pith of citrus fruits. If you can only get one type of citrus juicer, a good first decision is to decide if you want to go for a healthier, less sweet juice that contains more of the pith constituents or a better tasting, sweeter, purer juice from a manual citrus press or juicer with a citrus attachment like the Omega juicer. See citrus juicer comparisons below to find the citrus juicer you need.
There are two kinds of juice and a number of ways to juice citrus fruits.
1. Traditional freshly squeezed citrus juice can be produced by:
- Hand Squeezing, which can be messy
- Manual Reamer made of glass, metal, or plastic
- Electric Reamer including attachments (see 8001 or 1500) producing more
- Citrus Press (see citrus press juicer comparisons below) requiring no electricity, few parts to clean, and producing the most. The citrus press produces the highest yield and is the easiest to clean.

2. A more whole juice including the nutrition from the pith requires a fruit and vegetable juicing machine. This juice is more creamy, frothy, and foamy, but is not as sweet as squeezed juice. Grapefruit, orange, and tangerine skin contain chemicals that can NOT be digested by humans. Therefore, the outer colored skin must be removed leaving the white exposed. Lemons and limes may be juiced whole, skin and all, but may diminish the taste. A more whole citrus juice can be produced by:
The fruit and vegetable juicers produce the highest nutrient content, the lowest yield, and are the hardest to clean.
