- Facial masks: Put a few spoonfuls of clay mask powder or water-soaked oatmeal in a bowl. Add a teaspoon of vegetable oil and 1-3 drops of aromatherapy essential oils. Stir and add water and ground or powdered herbal teas until a toothpaste-like consistency is formed. Apply to the face and allow to dry 10-15 minutes. Remove gently with warm water.
- Facial Oils: Mix 2-3 drops of essential oil into 1/4 cup of carrier oils.
- Facial Saunas: Fill a bowl or sink with very warm water. Add a few drops of essential oil and steam face by leaning over the water, with a towel draped over the head. Steam face for ten minutes. Rinse with warm water, then cool water. Good oils for skin care include lavender oil, sage oil, oil from rosemary plant, chamomile essential oil, ylang ylang, rose oil, lemon oil, and geranium oil.
- Hair Care: Add a couple of drops of essential oils to your unscented shampoos and conditioners. Rosemary brings out the highlights of dark hair, chamomile brings out the highlights in light hair, and sage brings out the highlights in gray hair.
- Inhalants: Hold an open bottle 2-4 inches from your nose and breathe deeply a few times.
- Massage Oils: Add 6 drops of essential oil per ounce of vegetable carrier oil (a 1% dilution).
- Natural Perfumes: Mix a few drops of different oils together allowing the scents to blend before smelling. When blending oils, a little goes a long way. More oil can be added later, if desired. Apply the essential oil blend directly to hair to absorb the scent. Body heat from the head will diffuse the oils.
